Max Swiatek is a Visual Effects Artist currently residing in America’s finest little city, Philadelphia.  A Visual Effects and Motion Graphics graduate from the Art Institute of Philadelphia, Max specializes in compositing.

Max’s work has been described as “wonderfully cheesy”: perhaps this is because he draws inspiration from the forgotten “bad” films of the past. “I love to watch a nice old VHS tape and examine what years of wear and tear have done to the image,” says Max, “ I love old B and C films with missing frames and low grade image quality.”

Despite his interest in the past, Max strives to infuse the charm of vintage film with current techniques and styles using digital technology.  He is an avid user of software such as Maya, After Effects, Shake, and Nuke.

  • Power Rangers

    Power Rangers

Growing up, I loved the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers. Naturally, I chose to recreate the intro to one of the greatest shows of all time. I rented a cheap Ranger costume and shot some friends on green screen. I used an old Megazord action figure for the Zord scenes. The logo was recreated in After Effects. I even added some VHS noise and tracking errors to make it even more authentic and cheesy. Enjoy.

    The Fallen Names

I’ve always had a fascination with Russian History and Title Sequences, so with the help of a randomly generated title, I have a Soviet-era disaster film. The bomb was created and rendered in Maya, the text was done in Illustrator, and it was all brought together in After Effects and given some nice shake and grain.

    “Number 148″ Titles

These are titles I did for Jason Zapata’s production, “Number 148.” The book was created and animated in Cinema 4D and then comped together in After Effects. The music was added by myself and is not from the project.

    2010 Compositing Reel

These are a few breakdowns from some of my work. All of the elements were shot and/or created by myself. All of the comp work was done in either Shake, After Effects, or a combination of both.

  • Goldeneye

    Goldeneye

Sometimes, the best part about a 007 film is the titles. Although the new ones are flashy and pretty good at times, there’s something great about the classics. I chose to take the film Goldeneye and remake it’s titles in the style of Maurice Binder’s amazing Dr. No titles. Special thanks to Stephanie Juris for her dancing skills.
